News Cast for October 28th:
A 39 year old Vero Beach man was killed in a single vehicle accident on route 60 east of YeeHaw Junction on Sunday morning. Ramone Morgan lost control of a Chrysler sedan at about 3 am for an unknown reason and the vehicle flipped onto route 60. He died at the scene.
A 51 year old Vero Beach man was charged in an alleged scheme to defraud an Okeechobee rancher. William Boyer was accused of leasing pasture he didn’t own and then with the sale of cattle he didn’t own in St. Lucie County. 13 head of cows and 36 calves are unaccounted for in the investigation. Boyer faces five counts of grand theft.
The Florida public service commission approved a natural gas pipeline from Alabama to Indiantown last week. The proposed route could send it through a portion of Okeechobee County in the hub between Orlando and Indiantown’s Florida Power and Light plant. Construction will cost 3.5 billion and over 6 thousand construction jobs will be created with construction to begin in 2016.
A Panhandle family set a record for walking the entire length of Florida’s scenic trails. Michael Umbarger said highlights included being sprayed by crop dusters near Apalachicola, and the bugs and alligators around Lake Okeechobee. He said the boys enjoyed great views of sugar cane fields but were surprised there were few places to see Lake Okeechobee. They started by hiking state parks and then started long journeys on the Lake Okeechobee scenic, and even the Apallachian trail in Georgia and Tennessee.
