News Cast for January 17th:
Among arrests today, 49 year old Leonard Summa and 32 year old Briana Davis were charged with sale and possession with the intent to sell methamphetamines in narcotics task force operations conducted late last year.
23 year old Hilliard Gopher of Brighton was charged with trafficking in met amphetamines, marijuana possession and driving on a suspended license after traffic stop on route 78. Okeechobee deputies allege 78 grams of met amphetamines were seized. Bond was 103 thousand dollars.
25 year old Tamatha Grant was charged with felony theft from an elderly person in Spring Haven. The Indiantown woman allegedly stole over 10 thousand dollars in jewelry and 6 hundred and 60 dollars from the elderly woman.
Okeechobee County dairy farmers Jacob and Danielle Larson were the runner ups in the National Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Achievement Award competition held this week in San Antonio, Texas.
The Larson’s won the Florida title in the fall. They earn 3 thousand dollars in prize money, a new Case tractor and some STIHL merchandise.
Sports Cast for January 17th:
Yearling girls’ basketball held off Osceola 30-21 to sweep the season series this week. Yearling scored the first 14 points of the game before Osceola rallied in the second half.
Yearling coach Tammy Wright said her team has a bad habit of relaxing. Megan Hargraves had nine points and Diamond Wiggins 8 points to lead Yearling. Video interview on our Facebook page.
Kara Adams led Osceola with 10 points and double digit rebounds. She said her team played hard after an early deficit. Video interview on our Facebook page.
South Fork held on to defeat Okeechobee 33-32 in girls’ basketball action last night. Bethany Stuart had a game high 15 points for Okeechobee. Tiannea Fryson and Kendarly Duperat both had 9 points for South Fork.
Lady Brahman Coach Morgan Ungerott said her team just couldn’t get the basket to fall in the final minutes. Okeechobee trailed 19-10 at the half and cut the lead to one point several times in the fourth quarter.
Brahman boys’ soccer ties Benjamin 1-1 last night.
On the sports schedule today, boys’ basketball visits Port St. Lucie, JV at 4:30 and varsity at 6 pm. Chobee Wrestling will host the Junior Varsity Championships tomorrow at OHS. Boys’ soccer will host Lake Placid Saturday at 11 am and hold senior day honors after the match.
