“Operation Safe Neighborhood”
During the week of February 8, 2014, through February 20, 2014, Motor Unit Deputy Sheriff Adrian Rogers, conducted an operation within the neighborhoods of Okeechobee. This operation was to increase the awareness of drivers of the speed limits and traffic laws in residential neighborhoods.
The weeklong operation yielded (40) warnings and (11) citations. This will be an ongoing operation throughout Okeechobee County.
Undersheriff Noel Stephen stated of the operation, “We will continue to work on improving the safety within our residential neighborhoods for our residents. These awareness campaigns are an attempt to educate residents of the posted speed limits that are one of the biggest complaints in almost every neighborhood. Our one man traffic unit is dedicated to that endeavor and does a wonderful job but is only one man. We hope that these types of campaigns will be productive and effective.”
