News Cast for December 1st:

The fate of an Okeechobee woman convicted of DUI manslaughter two years ago will have to wait another week. Okeechobee County Court Judge Dan Vaughn yesterday decided to wait on re-sentencing 47 year old Lisa Marie Kramer so he can review new evidence in the case, including that of her psychiatrist, who claims Kramer is mentally ill. Kramer’s attorney, Andrew Stein says Kramer should serve a total of 19 years of prison, house arrest and probation because of her illness (Kramer Re-Sentencing Hearing 2). Kramer was sentenced last month to 35 years in prison for DUI-Manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and cocaine possession when she hit 46 year old motorcyclist Clinton Lewis Griffin of Okeechobee with her car in 2015. Next re-sentencing hearing will be on December 8th.

Okeechobee County Commissioners yesterday approved a proposed grant agreement with the Okeechobee Utility Authority for just under $700,000.00 in Community Development Block Grant Funds to extend the water system in Whispering Pines near NW 36th Street and Route 441. Okeechobee County Grant Consultant Deborah Belcher says it’s needed over there because of the lack of a potable water system and is flood prone during heavy rains. Belcher says this water system would provide an extra added positive. The county will now go to bid with several companies before construction on the water system begins which will take several months.

Commissioners also approved the purchase of a Ford Transit 15 passenger van from Gilbert Ford for the Ag-Extension office, received information on LED signs for the Agri-Civic Center on the Route 710 and Route 70 entrances and continued discussion on special event policies and fees for the use of Okeechobee County parks and open spaces.

A Clewiston man was charged with failing to maintain his lane after a vehicle accident Wednesday night. Florida Highway Patrol officers say 45 year old Vicente Garcia was driving his Toyota Rav4 east on Route 675 in Manatee County when he drifted into the opposite lane and sideswiped an oncoming Ford F150 pickup truck, causing it to veer off the highway and into a ditch. The collision caused the truck to catch fire. No injuries were reported.

A Cape Coral man will spend the rest of his life in prison after being sentenced Wednesday for raping a woman. 29 year old Chunsi William Vines received a life sentence for one count of kidnapping, 30 years for sexual battery by threatening use of force and five years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Vines found his victim by responding to a classified ad and then had her meet him at a home for sale in Cape Coral where he raped her and threatened to drown her.
