Thanks for listening to WOKC Okeechobee's True Country!

News Cast for December 4th:

Okeechobee County Firefighters had their hands full Thursday with a truck accident. Crews were called to the 65 hundred block of SE 128th Avenue for a semi-rolled over semi-truck and trailer hauling feed just after 10 am. The vehicle was resting on its right side and while there were no injuries to the driver, the truck apparently had at least 50 gallons of fuel that spilled onto the roadway and deployed into the adjacent waterway. Crews from the company that operates the semi were called to the scene and used diking buoys to contain the spill and used absorbent towels in the waterway. Crews needed about two hours to clean up the spilled fuel and return the semi to an upright position.

An Okeechobee woman is asking for help in stopping the excessive recreational activity on her property. Teresa Hanson, a resident of the Viking Estate/Prairie Area of North Okeechobee, asked county commissioners last week to help stop the constant ATV riding and generally loud partying in the vicinity of hers and other residents’ homes there. Hanson says the Coquina Water Management District is to blame and doesn’t answer to anyone but she hopes that will change. Hanson has also stated that residents who are not doing what the Coquina Water Management asks are being threatened through Facebook and other social media.

A Cape Coral man will be spending some time in prison for a host of charges involving a minor. A Lee County Court judge Friday sentenced 24 year old John Joseph McEnroe to ten years in prison and five years of probation for travelling to meet a minor and solicitation. He was arrested in June of last year after he was sending sexually explicit text messages to someone he thought was a 13 year old girl but was in fact a law enforcement officer he was chatting with as part of Operation Cyber Guardian to stop sexual predators. He travelled to Cape Coral to meet her thinking she was alone. Law enforcement officers were there to arrest him. McEnroe is now a registered lifetime sexual offender.
