News Cast for January 9th:

The search continues for an Apopka man who went missing during a fishing tournament last week. Officers from the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s office, US Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are into their fifth day searching for Nik Kayler who disappeared Thursday night while fishing with his friend, Bill Kisiah, on Lake Okeechobee after their boat crashed and apparently capsized near Pahokee. FWC Spokesperson Carol Lyn Parrish recommends civilians not go looking for Kayler on their own. Parrish says despite the search going as long as it has, crews are still confident they will find Kayler. Kisiah, of Louisiana, was treated for hypothermia after he was found.  If you have any information as to his whereabouts, please contact the Wildlife Alert Line at (888) 404-3922.

It was a relatively quiet weekend for Okeechobee County Firefighters. Crews were called to the 65 hundred block of Route 98 North for a vehicle fire Saturday afternoon. Crews arrived just before 1:45 and assisted the truck’s two occupants in extinguishing two smoldering boxes on the side of the road that they removed from the bed of their truck. No one was injured.

Two Lehigh Acres men are dead and one Okeechobee woman seriously injured after a multi vehicle accident Thursday night in Glades County. Florida Highway Patrol officers say 19 year old Shannon Garrett of Clewiston was driving south on route 721 near 78 when she tried to avoid a car that drifted into her lane from the opposite way, but she hit a guardrail. The other car then continued on the wrong side of the road and collided with another car driven by 55 year old Michael Steven Furrow, whose car was then hit by another car and then that car hit a pedestrian, 20 year old Tracy Agnes Cypress. Cypress, Furrow and Furrow’s passenger, 71 year old Robert Lewis Yale were taken to Lawnwood Medical Center in Ft. Pierce for treatment where Furrow and Yale later died. Cypress is being treated for her injuries. Garrett was not injured. The accident is under investigation.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators are looking for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident that killed a Labelle woman Saturday night. Investigators say 25 year old Nicole Lynn Black was standing on Route 80 and Hendry Street in Hendry County when she was about to cross the street when she walked right into the path of a Cadillac Escalade. The driver swerved trying to avoid hitting Black but the front right corner hit Black, killing her instantly. The Cadillac Escalade driver fled the scene. Investigators later found the Escalade abandoned. The crash is under investigation. If you have any information leading to the driver of this car, please contact FHP immediately.

FHP is also investigating the cause of a single vehicle accident that killed an Immokalee woman and two young children Saturday night. Investigators say 27 year old Shatoria Michelle Brown was driving east on Eden avenue in Collier County when she inexplicably drove onto the shoulder and went into the water there and her car became submerged. Brown’s dead body was found in the water outside the car, while one of the children passengers, a five year old boy was found dead in the car. The other passenger, a three year old girl, was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
