With tomorrow being the 4th of July, there will likely be lots of partying and fireworks going off in Okeechobee County and not just at the Agri-Civic Center. While it is a time to celebrate Independence Day, Okeechobee residents are being asked to use caution, both with fireworks and with partying. Major Donald Hagen of the Okeechobee Police Department says when handling fireworks, using caution cannot be overstressed because of reports of people losing fingers and hands as a result of mishandling fireworks. Hagen says also while using fireworks, show some respect for your neighbors. Hagen says to also use caution if you’re going to be drinking and don’t drink and drive and while you’re on the road, be a defensive driver and try to take the necessary action to avoid getting into an accident.

A search of a home with warrant resulted in the arrests of an Okeechobee man and woman Friday. Narcotics officers of the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Department went into to the home of 40 year old Catherine Lee Frost on the eleven hundred block of NE 13th Avenue and noticed she put something into her mouth as she was ordered out of the house. Officers ordered her to spit it up and it turned out to be crack cocaine. One of the other occupants, 18 year old Javaris Jamar Frost, refused to come out of the house and he was arrested for resisting arrest with violence.
