At their meetingTuesday night, the Okeechobee County School Board established an agreement with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation to provide a curriculum to teach school officials and students how to assess potential threats and see the warning signs of trouble in a school. Superintendent Ken Kenworthy says the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation was established following the tragic school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in 2012 to help better educate schools around the country about ascertaining threats at schools and help prevent them from becoming a tragedy. Kenworthy says it’s also designed to help students that are withdrawn or feeling left out. Officials from the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation will be in Okeechobee to teach this curriculum on September 14th.
