Florida Highway Patrol officers say 38 year old Jamie Kay Vickers was driving a Toyota Camry north on Country Road 721 towards Bullhead Grade in Glades County just before 9:30 when she didn’t approach a right handed curve properly and went off the road before her car hit a tree and rotated clockwise around the tree causing the rear of the car to hit a utility pole. The Okeechobee County School Board approved their mental health allocation plan for the upcoming school year at their meeting Thursday night. This plan will allow all students, from kindergarten through twelfth grade, the chance to get the help and support they need for good mental health and hopefully take away the stigma as it pertains to mental health treatment. Pat McCoy, the assistant superintendent for instructional services in Okeechobee County, says plans that are already in place such as Stranger Danger and Bullying Awareness, will be joined by a new program called Cloud 9. McCoy says this program focuses on character traits. McCoy says this mental health allocation plan, which came about as a result of tragedies at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, will not cost the school board at all; it’s funded through the Sandy Hook Foundation.
