News Cast for August 30th:

Okeechobee County Commissioners held their first day of a special workshop yesterday with representatives of Washington DC based Merchant McIntyre, a grant writing company, to receive input from county departments on possible grant funding for county projects. Pete De Pasquale, County Road Maintenance Director, spoke with the Merchant McIntyre representatives and said one project in particular was the condition of SE 120th Avenue and the need to completely re-do that eight mile stretch of road which the county has spent nearly a million dollars over three years repairing. De Pasquale says the repairs have not fared well. County Engineer John Howle also spoke regarding the number of drainage problems in the county and the need to repair those problems, specifically in the areas of Plants Bluff and Lawyer Farms. Howle says he hopes grant funding can be obtained because the work will be costly. Other county departments’ representatives who spoke with Merchant McIntyre yesterday include Public Safety, Capital Facilities and Parks and Recreation.
