The Historic Courthouse in Okeechobee County has a new art exhibit for your viewing pleasure. Artist and Okeechobee resident Sandra Pearce last night revealed a gallery of several works to the public and they are all done through digital art works, which is done by computer through Photoshop and the pictures are those she has taken herself. Pearce also is a professional photographer and has been for nearly 25 years. Pearce says her interest in art began at a young age. Pearce, who also teaches digital art at several schools across the country, says she prefers digital art to painting on a white canvas. Her digital art works will be available to be seen at the courthouse from now until January 4th.

Centennial Park in Okeechobee will soon have playground equipment for the very first time. At the city council meeting Tuesday night, members of the 2018 Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class presented a check of just under eight thousand dollars to the city to fund this new playground equipment. Cara De Pasquale, president of the leadership class, says presenting this check has been the culmination of a lot of long hours and a lot of hard work. De Pasquale says the idea for this project actually originated from one of her classmates in the leadership class. The funding for this came as a result of a couple of raffles and a “Ladies Night Out” event. The installation of the playground equipment should begin sometime next year.

Okeechobee County Sheriff’s deputies have a local man in custody on charges of domestic battery in connection with an incident Wednesday morning. Deputies were called to the 17 thousand block of NW 32nd Avenue just before 7:30 after receiving reports that 33 year old Cody Dale Cooper slapped his girlfriend, shoved her and threatened to kill her and law officers if she called them. Deputies say the two had argued over the fact that Cooper’s girlfriend saw that he had pictures of other women on his phone, prompting the assault. Deputies also say he’s showed this kind of behavior in the past. Cooper was arrested, charged and transported to the county jail. His bond has not been set.

An Okeechobee man is in county jail on several charges following an incident Tuesday evening. Narcotics officers from the sheriff’s department were watching the occupants of two vehicles, a Lincoln passenger car and a Chevrolet pickup truck, on the two hundred block of NE 14th Avenue, a high crime area, just before seven o’clock. Officers then followed the driver of the Lincoln, 63 year old Robert Hilary Frier, and noticed he threw something out of his window, prompting officers to pull him over. Officers noticed something on Frier’s lip and it was tested and it was crack cocaine. Officers say the object that Frier threw out of his car was a baggie of crack cocaine. Frier was arrested and charged with cocaine possession and tampering with evidence. His bond is set at ten thousand dollars.

Florida Highway Patrol officers have released the name of the pickup truck driver who was killed along with four others in a vehicle accident last Friday night. FHP officers say 27 year old Kedan D. Tillett of Fort Pierce was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup south on South 25th Street near Midway Road in St. Lucie County just after 10:30 when 21 year old Tanner Ray Dashner, also of Fort Pierce, was driving a GMC Yukon SUV at a high rate of speed behind Tillett’s truck and collided with it. The impact caused Tillett’s truck to rear end a BMW before rotating clockwise off the road. Tillett, along with 21 year old Anthony Victor of Fort Pierce, 21 year old Darien Douglas of Port St. Lucie and a 17 year old Fort Pierce girl and 16 year old Fort Pierce boy, all perished in the accident. Dashner meanwhile sustained critical injuries in the accident and is being treated at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Fort Pierce. Dashner may be facing charges of drunk driving and manslaughter. The BMW driver and passenger were treated for minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

43 year old Marsha Nichole Joiner of Okeechobee was arrested for possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia inside the county jail. Her bond is set at $10 thousand 250 dollars.

48 year old Karla Mae Bennett of Okeechobee was arrested on a warrant from St. Lucie County for possession of drug paraphernalia. She’s being held without bond.

31 year old Lauren Elizabeth Masters of Okeechobee was arrested for violating probation on past drug charges. She’s being held without bond.

56 year old Anthony Cillo Junior of Okeechobee was arrested for battery after a domestic dispute. His bond is set at $250 dollars.

34 year old Sherrie Lynn Torres of Okeechobee was arrested for violating probation on past charges of driving on a suspended license. She’s being held without bond.

52 year old Timothy Allen Morris of Okeechobee was arrested for possession of marijuana after a he was involved in a traffic accident. He was released after posting a five hundred dollar bond.
