DISTRICT ONE DISTRICTWIDE ROADWATCH REPORT #06

FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 9, 2020

Fort Myers — This weekly report is prepared by Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to inform the public about upcoming road work in Southwest Florida. Below are the work schedule and lane closure locations for major state road projects. 

Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

GLADES COUNTY 

US 27 from 5th Street to north of SR 78: Construction project: Crews will be milling and resurfacing the roadway on US 27 from 5th Street to north of SR 78 in Moore Haven.  Additional work includes improving the drainage, sidewalks and road shoulders, and installing curb and gutter, signage and pavement markings, and water and sewer lines along US 27.  Work also includes replacing traffic signals at 6th Street and 10th Street and adding new streetlights at 10th Street and SR 78 intersections. Motorists should expect periodic nighttime and daytime lane closures on US 27 during construction.

·       Motorists should expect intermittent eastbound and westbound lane closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on US 27 from 5th Street to SR 78 while crews’ grade and install drainage pipe and widen right turn lanes throughout the project limits.

Please use caution and watch for workers in the construction zone.  Estimated project completion is summer 2020. The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida

HENDRY COUNTY 

US 27 from Industrial Canal to Central Street in Clewiston: Construction project: Crews will install welcome signs, lighting, fencing, and landscaping at the eastern (west of San Diego Street North) and western (west of Lewis Boulevard) city limits of the City of Clewiston. The contractor is Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc.  Estimated project completion is early 2020.

SR 80 from Dalton Lane to CR 833: Construction project: Crews will widen approximately 11 miles of roadway from two to four lanes and add new turning lanes. Additional work includes repaving the current lanes and constructing ten new bridges. Three of the bridges will require full demolition and removal of the existing bridges to construct the new ones. Work also includes drainage improvements, adding curb and gutter, and installing LED lighting. Please use caution and watch for workers in the construction zone.Estimated project completion is summer 2020. The contractor is AJAX Paving of Industries Florida.

·       SR 80 (W. Hickpochee Avenue) from north of Bee Creek to north of Fort Thompson Avenue; Bee Creek (just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) to north of Fort Thompson Avenue: Construction project: The contractor is also improving the drainage along SR 80, and upgrading the sidewalks and curb ramps. Work also includes upgrading the existing traffic signals on SR 80 at Main Street and Bridge Street and Lee Street intersections; adding streetlights on both sides of the roadway from College Street to east of Lee Street. Motorists should expect nighttime lane closures on SR 80 from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Sunday night through Thursday night.

·       Sunday nights through Thursday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. motorists should expect outside lane closures on SR 80 from south of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to north of East Fort Thompson Avenue. Concrete crews will be working along the outside lanes of SR 80

·       Monday through Friday, signing, signal and lighting work will take place during the daytime. The work will be performed outside of the roadway, outside lane closures as needed. Sidewalks will be detoured as needed around the work sites.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and watch for workers in the construction zone. The contractor is Preferred Materials, Inc. Estimated project completion date is Spring 2020.

Ventura Avenue from Lopez Street to Berner Road in Clewiston: Construction project: Crews will construct five-foot sidewalks along the north side of Ventura Avenue and improve driveways and drainage along Ventura Avenue from Lopez Street to Berner Road in Clewiston. Daytime lane closures may be required along Ventura Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.  The contractor is Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc.  Estimated project completion is early 2020.

City of LaBelle hardscape and entry signs at Patton Road, Industrial Loop. Forrey Drive, and Grandma’s Boulevard: Construction project:Crews will install welcome signs including landscaping, irrigation, and decorative lighting on the northern (near Patton Road), eastern (near Forrey Drive), southern (near Industrial Loop), and western (near Grandma’s Boulevard) city limits of LaBelle.  The contractor is Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc.  Estimated project completion is early 2020.

HIGHLANDS COUNTY

US 98 over the Kissimmee River, Lorida Creek and Istokpoga Canal: Construction project: Crews will be making structural repairs to the bridges on US 98 over the Kissimmee River, Lorida Creek and Istokpoga Canal.  During construction single daytime lane closures will occur.  Please use caution in these areas and watch for workers in the construction zones.  The contractor is Southern Road & Bridge, LLC . Estimated project completion is spring 2020.

·       Motorists should expect intermittent single daytime lane closures on US 98 at the Kissimmee River bridge while crews work to make improvements to the structure. 

US 98/SR 66 from Okeechobee county line to Hardee county line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along eastbound and westbound US 98/SR 66 from the Okeechobee county line to the Hardee county line.  Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.


US 27 from the Polk County line to Striker Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be installing poles and cables throughout February 2020.  From now through February, a crane will be in the right of way and a multi-lane closure will be in use. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to and in the roadway. 

US 27 from the Sunpure Road to Strafford Road: Maintenance permit project: Crews will be installing sewer and water mains.  Please use caution and watch for crews working close to the roadway both northbound and southbound. 

US 27 from Trojan Loop to Hammock Road: Utility permit project: Crews will be installing poles and cables on the southbound side of US 27. Please use caution and watch for crews working close to and in the roadway. 

US 27 northbound from SR 70 to US 98/SR 66 intersection: Maintenance contract project: Crews are making repairs to the road shoulders on northbound US 27 from SR 70 to the US 98/SR 66 intersection.  Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 southbound from Cloverleaf Road to Lake June Road and from Old SR 8 to south of Kelsey Road: Maintenance contract project: Crews are making repairs to the road shoulders on southbound US 27 from US 98/SR 66 intersection to SR 70 and from Old SR 8 to south of Kelsey Road.  Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 from Glades county line to Polk county line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along US 27 northbound and southbound from the Glades county line to the Polk county line.  Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

US 27 from SR 66/US 98 intersection to Lake June Road: Maintenance project: Crews will be reworking road shoulders in the medians on US 27 from the intersection of SR 66/US 98 to Lake June Road in Lake Placid.  Motorists should use caution and expect intermittent inside lane closures northbound and southbound on US 27 Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SR 70 from US 27 to CR 721: Maintenance project: Crews will perform weed control and tree trimming along the guardrail in this area. Motorists should use caution and expect intermittent lane closures eastbound and westbound from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

SR 70 from Distribution Boulevard to Old SR 8: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be cleaning ditches along SR 70 from Distribution Boulevard to Old SR 8. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 70 from Okeechobee county line to Desoto county line:  Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along eastbound and westbound SR 70 from the Okeechobee county line to the Desoto county line.  Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 66 between South Hammock Road and US 27: Construction project: Crews will be replacing sections of guardrail along SR 66 from US 27 to South Hammock Road.  Motorists should expect one lane closed during construction between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The contractor is Acme Barricades, L.C.  Expected completion is early 2020.

SR 66 at Payne Road: Construction project: Crews will be making drainage improvements along SR 66 at Payne Road.  No lane closures are anticipated.  Please watch for workers and equipment close to the roadway.

SR 64 from US 27 to Hardee county line: Maintenance contract project: Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along SR 64 from US 27 to the Hardee county line. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

SR 17 at Crescent Drive (Lake Jackson): Construction project: Crews are improving drainage at Lake Jackson beach on Crescent Drive. Crews will be de-watering the work area, starting excavation, and piping and structures installation. The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC. Expected completion is late March 2020; weather permitting.

SR 17 from US 27 south of Lake Jackson to Main Street (SR 64): Maintenance contract project:Crews will be mowing and picking up litter along SR 17 from US 27 south of Lake Jackson to Main Street in Avon Park. Please watch for workers in the work zone and use caution in the area.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

US 441 SE between canal 59 and SE 66th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are constructing a new pumping station including a new driveway connection to US 441 SE. Watch for workers close to the roadway with shoulder closures.  Watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the roadway.

SR 78 east of SW 16th Avenue: Maintenance permit project: Crews are installing a new pole. Watch for workers close to the roadway with shoulder closures and temporary road closures.
