Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee Donates for Annual School Supply Drive
The Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee held their first meeting since mid-March in early August and presented Real Life Children’s Ranch with a check for $4,290 for the club’s annual School Supply Drive. Kiwanis also gave approximately $300 worth of school supplies donated by KOA of Okeechobee.
Executive Director of the Real Life Children’s Ranch Mark Meyer was on hand to accept the donation and spoke to the club. Meyer says that the money will be well spent, “ …not only school supplies throughout the year because we get new kids that come in and we’re talking about school clothes and all those things that go with school to make that happen, it’s difficult for us to do when there are that many kids so it’s huge for us”
Kiwanis president Don Hanna says it was extra special to continue to support Real Life Children’s Ranch during a pandemic, “ I’m just glad we were able to help, this is our first time back together in the pandemic and it was for a good cause.”
This marks over 15 years that the Kiwanis Club of Okeechobee has organized a school supply drive to benefit The Real Life Children’s Ranch. The club raises $2000 together and has two members that wish to remain anonymous that match the donations dollar for dollar.
Real Life Children’s Ranch exists to provide a Christian residential group home that cares for boys and girls who have been abused, abandoned, and/or neglected. Real Life Children’s Ranch is a tax-exempt 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization approved by the State of Florida. The children typically range in age from five to seventeen. Their goal is to give children the best possible care in a secure family atmosphere and to guide them into fulfilling and productive futures.
