Brahman senior point guard Malcolm Kelly averaged 10 points. 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and over 3 steals a game to help lead Okeechobee to a magical 26-3 season and a game away from state last year. His efforts earned him a scholarship to play basketball at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa next year.
The Ellsworth Community College Panthers are a member of the National Junior Athletic Association and play in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. Fittingly enough, the Panthers wear Purple and Gold. The Panthers went 14-17 this past season. Kelly will be joining a very young team that featured only freshman and sophomores last year.
Malcolm’s contributions to Okeechobee’s season were very obvious to anyone that saw him play, but if you only looked at numbers, you might night see that. Malcolm has no regrets on how he played the game and said that everything he did was to help the team win.
Malcom and his triplet brothers Markeze and Mikal transferred to Okeechobee just before their senior year began and played only one season for the Brahmans, but what a season it was. Kelly said when he had a chance to reflect on Okeechobee’s 26-3 season, he is very proud of the way the team did things the right way.
Malcolm will be making the trip to Iowa by himself and for the first time in his life will not have Markeze and Mikal with him. Markeze is sorting through college offers but Ellsworth does not appear to one of them and Mikal has plans to enlist in the Marines.
