When Sanford Seminole High School won the FHSAA class 8A State Football championship on December 19th, head coach Eric Lodge wasn’t the only former Brahman on the staff. Rex Erwin Jr was a 2006 graduate of Okeechobee High School and a high school teammate of Lodge. Rex now serves as the offensive coordinator for the State Champions.
Erwin’s offense churned out 38 points en route to the championship. Rex still has friends and family in Okeechobee and says he heard from many of them in the hours after winning the game over Kissimmee Osceola. Erwin credits his father, Rex Sr who was a long time assistant coach at OHS along with his former coaches Chris Branham and Tyrone Smith for helping to mold him into the coach he has become.
Seminole went undefeated for the first time in school history this season in Lodge’s first season as head coach. It was the second state championship for the program with the first coming in 2008.
