Smith Excited For His Opportunity At Moore Haven (AUDIO INCLUDED)

Moore Haven Head Football Coach Joe Smith

Former Brahman football Offensive coordinator Joe Smith was named the Head Football Coach at Moore Haven High School in late June succeeding Brent Burnside. Smith, a class of 97 OHS graduate has been an assistant in the Brahman program for ten seasons. At various times he was the head JV coach, Varsity WR and DB coach and the varsity offensive coordinator and QB coach.  Smith also coached the Girls Basketball program for 4 seasons from 2014-2018.

After graduating OHS in 97, Smith played football and got his degree at Wayne State College in Nebraska. After college, Smith played semi pro football for the Northfork Thunderbirds in Nebraska.

Smith brings years of experience working with kids off all ages from youth football to high school aged. Smith has worked in the I-Back system, Single Wing and Pistol Wing along with the spread offense. Smith says he needs to learn more about his players at Moore Haven before he defines a single offense to install but he suspects it will be a hybrid of several philosophies.

Smith is also the I.T Director for the Okeechobee County Sherriff’s Office.

Moore Haven begins their 2021 season on September 24th at Avon Park.
