In a heartwarming example of community spirit and cooperation, the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team (C.A.T.) made a significant impact on the lives of a local family affected by a devastating fire on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Corporal Richard Varnadore, Deputy Sheriff K9 Karson Reno, Deputy Sheriff Jessica Bunting, and Deputy Sheriff Victor Gonzalez, the family received much-needed assistance during a challenging time. But they did not do this alone.
On Wednesday, January 8, the C.A.T. members conducted a follow-up visit with the family and learned that they had recently acquired a new home but lacked essential household items. Recognizing the urgent need, the team sprang into action, rallying the community and local businesses to provide the necessary support.
The response from the Okeechobee County community was overwhelming. Local businesses and individuals stepped up in a remarkable way, donating household necessities to help the family rebuild their lives. This outpouring of generosity exemplified what it means to come together as a community during times of need.
Special thanks go to the following contributors:
Royal’s Furniture: Brian Royal and the Royal family generously donated two new twin beds and a large family dining table with six chairs, ensuring the family had comfortable places to sleep and gather.
Don’s Appliance: Mark Weir kindly donated an electric stove, which provides the family with a critical appliance for preparing meals.
Pregnancy Center of Okeechobee: Director Lisa Lumpkin and Cindy Maynard contributed two twin beds and various household items, including pots, pans, bed linens, and kitchen utensils.
The Closet: Leah Suarez donated a microwave, plates, silverware, and kitchen supplies, helping to equip the family’s new kitchen.
