Ranch land to homes
Glades County Commissioners said they are hearing talk of more land sales between Lakeport and Buckhead Ridge.
Commissioner Jerry Sapp said he heard the land on the north side of route 78 has been bought to provide additional land for big developments.
County Manager Marcos Montes De Oca admits there have been discussions but no actual land sales.
Chairman Tim Stanley said he’s heard the OUA wants land for a sewer plant in this vicinity.
He does predict more growth in the county.
“Dade and Broward are out of land to develop and developers are not going to stop developing land. We have always said we have got to grow into our county to have the funds to do it. We don’t like. A lot of people don’t want to see it grow but I think its coming whether we like it or not.”
Chief Deputy Duane Pottorff said the old county jail will begin to accept inmates in the middle of January.
Moore Haven Correctional will be providing meals for the inmates next year.
The Glades County Court House is closed on December 23 and December 26.
In the courts, 26 year old Juan Carlos Sandoval pled no contest to cocaine trafficking charges.
He was sentenced to one year in jail, five years on probation and a 50 thousand dollar fine.
The Okeechobee Narcotics Task Force searched a home at 3574 NW 4th Street in Dewberry Gardens on February 17th and allegedly seized over 1,000 grams of cocaine.
They also seized a vehicle, drug paraphernalia, small amounts of marijuana and $4,500 in suspected drug cash.
While dairy product sales are up in the US this year, our dairy farmers continue to face challenges.
The National Milk Producers Federation annual convention focused on labor shortages, record inflation and dealing with supply chain disruptions.
Chairman Randy Mooney said the dairy industry is still in a good position to feed the world.
“Our product is one of the most nutritionally valuable foods available. No other product can give you the nutrition that dairy can for the price.”
He said the record setting inflation is a concern.
“Inflation is felt by farmers, processors, marketers and consumers. This creates uncertainty. We do not yet know what a post COVID world will look like. It shakes confidence and erodes trust.”
