WOKC News. Defending ICE with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. Congressman Scott Franklin says it’s Minneapolis, a sanctuary city, that’s to blame for the fatal shooting of two people who resisted the efforts of ICE last year and early this year. Franklin says Florida has a different way of handling immigration. It’s not a coincidence in my mind that the shootings that we’ve seen that occurred in both Portland and Minneapolis, those things don’t happen in places like Florida. He supports the HALO Act to the federal level. It’s now in effect in Florida. It prohibits people from being within 25 feet of any police activity. A lot more super speeders in Florida. Sheriff Noel Stevens says pulling these guys over and sending them to jail may have an effect. He says 70 East has been a problem with the four lane road. The Florida Highway Patrol says they continue to have a lot of high speed chases with these super speeders. Senior Trooper Kenneth Watson says there’s a lot of people still using their cell phones in school zones too. No more talking on your device in your hand while you’re operating a motor vehicle. Everything must be hands free now. That is a primary stop in Florida. So let’s put those devices down. Again, making good decisions and use that Bluetooth option. Freezing temperatures in Florida has caused billions in damages for Florida farmers. At the word from Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, a report released last week estimated 3.17 billion in crop losses from two freezes between December 30th and January 1st and January 26th to February 4th. Numerous crops including citrus, sugarcane, tomatoes and blueberries were impacted. The Florida Farm Bill advancing through House committees. There was one hour of public comment against Section 47 of the bill that would deal with protecting non-perishable agriculture products from disparaging speech. Florida has had a food libel law in place since 1994, but it only encompassed perishable foods. The new provision would have added non-perishables as well as agriculture practices. Amy McBride called it a chilling violation of Floridian’s free speech. We’re living in a time where chronic disease is on the uprise. Cancer, diabetes, many different health issues. We should have the right to speak to the foods that are harming us. Supporters of the bill want to protect farmers against lies and false accusations. The provision includes agriculture practices where fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides could not be publicly criticized. Travel along 441 SE in the area of Kings Bay down to Nubbin Slough was impacted by smoke yesterday due to some brush fire activity in that area. There was no word of any structures being damaged. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
