They’ll be opening a warming center thursday and friday night. The forecast lows thursday night could be 35 and in the low forties on friday night. The warming center is at right life services at 202 Northeast Second Street. They open each night at six p.m. They’re in suite five over there. It should be county finally approved some impact fees in eight different categories including for the schools. Single family home impact fees would be over $15,000 for 1500 square feet or more. The fees vary otherwise with 81,000 for a restaurant, 95,000 for a car wash, a coffee house, 105,600. Former commissioner frank Irby had some questions if the land use is changed and if there would be an impact fee there. My position is impact fees as they are presented do not make sense and I would suggest that you not apply those or adopt those. The Okeechobee Economic Council voice support for the impact fees. A Quincy florida woman gets a $50,000 fine and three years in prison for cocaine trafficking in Okeechobee. Amber says Leslie tried to smuggle drugs into Okeechobee Correctional. One charge of possession of marijuana was dropped. She scored 62 months in jail. She was intercepted by guards on october 15th of 2022. They found 182 grams of marijuana on the suspect. A lake placid man has pled no contest to D. Y. Manslaughter and other charges for a fatal crash near Lareda last year. 45 year old thomas Rollerson was driving on the wrong side of US 98 west of our buckle Creek Road. He struck and killed a 16 year old girl. The florida Highway Patrol says Rollerson had a blood alcohol level 0.445 five times illegal limit in the crash on May 22nd. Troopers say Rollerson was stumbling around and wreaked of alcohol. He pled no contest December 17th and his sentence hearing is March 3rd. An Okeechobee man had to be pulled out of an attic after trying to hide in his neighbor’s attic. Thomas Forsman is facing a felony criminal mischief charge from an incident earlier this month at an apartment complex on Southwest 28th Street. They say he did about $4,000 in damage as his feet fell through the ceiling. The Okeechobee County Building Department and the Sheriff’s Office urging listeners to use caution when approached by unsolicited paving asphalt driveway and construction contractors. It’s a time of year for complaints and scams. Make sure that all contractors performing work on your property have a valid county occupational license. Never exchange money or sign a contract until licensing and permits have been verified. You’re asked to call the county building and zoning department to confirm permits before any work begins.
