WOKC News. The impacts of Music Fest with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. Already we’re feeling impacts and traffic from the Music Fest coming to Okeechobee the next four days. The Sheriff’s Office has been out on Dark Hammock Road, Berman Road, parts of Route 70, stopping vehicles and bringing in K-9 units. They had more than 12 K-9 utilization cases yesterday. Okeechobee County Commissioners are kind of fed up with the trucks coming into town damaging county roads. They’d like to create a truck route on 15B and eliminate truck traffic altogether on 15A. Mike Sumner is supportive of this. Could we not make C-15A a no-through road for truck traffic? And that road, that traffic could divert to 15B. Terry Burrows doubts that the truckers will pay attention. The Indiantown Village Council excited about the new owner of the Seminole Inn, the Garcia Group, planning to restore the building. This is Josh Kellum speaking to Indiantown Village Council. One thing that I will say is that we will restore the Seminole Inn back to what its original beauty was in 1925 when the start of construction took place on the Seminole Inn. The price tag for the historic site on Warfield Boulevard was $2 million. Two people were killed in rural Osceola County west of Yeehaw Junction last night in a head-on collision. The Florida Highway Patrol says the accident happens on State Road 60 near Maybass Road. Killed were a 54-year-old man from Tampa and a 52-year-old man from Greenacres City, Florida. The man from Tampa was at fault. He was passing eastbound and collided head-on with another SUV. The Senate Committee advanced legislation that would prohibit undocumented immigrants from operating commercial motor vehicles in Florida. However, it failed in the House in a committee. Don Goetz mentioned a tragedy in this area caused by a foreign driver who couldn’t read English in St. Lucie County. Last August, an illegal alien who could not understand road signs or traffic laws and didn’t know how to drive a commercial vehicle swerved his 18-wheeler into a family’s car and killed three Floridians. The bill did clear the Judiciary Committee over Democratic objections. It would have authorized the Highway Patrol and local police to arrest undocumented drivers, transfer them to immigration authorities, and impound the commercial vehicles. A sad story in the Viking as animal control advised a horse got its back leg caught in a fence and was severely injured and needed to be euthanized. There were no veterinarians available, so law enforcement was called in to euthanize the horse. It happened in the area of NW 254th Street. A bicyclist was pulled over for pedaling in the wrong direction on the 1900 block of NW 6th Street. Zachary Knight is facing charges of possession of controlled substances. He refused to be searched, so the deputy brought in a K-9 unit that made a positive alert on the bicycle seat. Martin County deputies pulled over a man from Okeechobee who failed to stop at a stop sign at Martin Grade and Allapattah Route 609. LaCarvis Kelly drove on for several miles, not pulling over. He’s being charged with fleeing and eluding law enforcement. His passenger was also arrested. She was wanted on a warrant out of Okeechobee. Reference violating a court order on a traffic charge. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
