WOKC News. You might know something. With WOKC News, I’m Charles Murphy. Okeechobee Sheriff’s Deputy is out with a public appeal for information in the Santos-Gossine homicide. He was found dead October 19th in a vehicle in the Debbie Park neighborhood just north of 70 East. Lead Detective Skyler Casey says he was a local resident and had many local ties. So he has family here, family in the area. He’s known very well by a bunch of people. He’s got children, he’s got a family. He says there are plenty of suspects, but they still need some evidence to bring the killer or killers in. Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers is offering rewards for arrests that lead to convictions. They’re 1-800-273-TIPS. The number again, 1-800-273-TIPS. Okeechobee deputies asking the public to help track down a roaming fraud crew hitting Walmarts and other box stores in the Treasure Coast. They’re using bogus or stolen credit cards to scoop up electronics and other high-dollar merchandise at these stores. The Sheriff’s Office did release a batch of surveillance photos on their Facebook page. Republicans in Congress are intensifying pressure on the Senate to take up the SAVE Act. Legislation would require Americans to prove their citizenship when registering to vote and have photo ID. Our Congressman Scott Franklin supports the photo ID and says Democrats are totally against this. And he was leading this chant saying that the SAVE America Act is Jim Crow 2.0, that it’s racist, which I thought was really ironic because you had to show a photo ID to get into his campaign rally. The city of Sebring is planning an indoor sports arena. It could be as large as 30,000 square feet and accommodate three hardwood courts and would have potential for hosting conventions, agriculture and even livestock events. Council member Josh Stewart would like to see the Tourist Development Council chip in some money. If we decide not to move forward, it’s lost money. But in my opinion, this is juice that’s worth a squeeze. A homeless woman claimed that the mob was attempting to kidnap and rape her during a domestic dispute at a convenience store on Southeast 26th Street. Okeechobee deputies say it turned out to be a domestic quarrel between the homeless people that live nearby in a homeless camp. Justine Gonzalez was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery. The Florida Legislature is considering a new license plate to help raise funding for the families of fallen police officers. It’s an effort of the Fraternal Order of Police. Senator Tom Wright says it’s a way to help these officers’ families. And this will allow more folks that want to support their law enforcement the opportunity to show their respect and their support. In the past, the plates were only available to families. Now it would be available to the general public. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
