WOKC News. Hope for the Farm Bill with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. U.S. Senate presenting the Farm Bill. Senator John Bozeman spoke in the Senate floor. He says the bill will help struggling farmers and ranchers, many who are facing bankruptcy and loss of their farms. He called it an important investment in rural America. He says agriculture needs relief more than ever before. The calls for a modernized Farm Bill have only grown louder as the inherently risky nature of agriculture, coupled with the unique challenges facing producers today, pose an imminent threat to their livelihoods and our national security. In Florida, we’ve had some freezes, and we’ve also had citrus greening and other problems that farmers have had to tackle. Opponents claim it doesn’t have enough SNAP or food stamp benefits currently included. Yucatube County School Board renewed their annual contract for legal services with Tom Conley and Conley, PA. They purchased a new scoreboard for Yucatube High School softball. It’ll cost us over $37,000. The board also congratulated longtime educator Buddy Mills. He was inducted this spring into the Future Farmers of America Hall of Fame. Martin County Commissioner Eileen Vargas does not want any more public funds for the Business Development Board of Martin County. She says they’ve been wasting money, and they should merge with the Martin County Economic Council. So I really quite don’t understand what it is that you’re doing that is different. I think you two ought to marry each other. I do. That is the Economic Council of Martin County. We don’t give them money. And if you’re economically in tune, you should be able to raise funds from those that support you. Vargas says she supports economic development, but pushed back against their avoidance of strict public records requirements and transparency. An alleged incident of road rage in Martin County lands a new Yucatube man in the Martin County jail. 30-year-old Edwin LeBoy allegedly was chasing after a female in vehicles in what may have been a domestic incident on the Florida Turnpike. The female told dispatchers that the car was following her, attempted to run her off the road, and that the male had a firearm with him and had threatened to kill her. Deputies caught up to him at mile marker 135 and recognized the vehicle, failed to maintain proper lanes and riding the fog line. When they stopped the vehicle, they allegedly found some grinders commonly associated with preparing marijuana and also some crystal methamphetamine. Also found in the vehicle was a firearm. A Sunrise man is alleged to have caused an uproar outside Publix. He was charged with trespass and held in a $500 bond. The white male wearing only black shorts was seen yelling at the top of his lungs in the parking lot. He’d been previously trespassed from Publix just last week. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
