W. O. K. C. News. D on 7 10 with W. O. K. C. News. I’m Charles Murphy. A tractor trailer was backing out of property at two zero three five nine Warfield Boulevard route seven 10 in Western Martin County last night and was on both sides of the road, covering the road completely. Florida highway patrol says a Subaru Outback was headed. Eastbound failed to notice the tractor trailer blocking the road and slammed into the rear trailer. The driver, a 31 year old man from West Palm Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say the investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed. The driver of the truck was only identified as a 56 year old man from New York. Okeechobee deputies investigating a threatening phone call received at Okeechobee Senior Services Wednesday morning. Deputies say a male subject was upset on the phone speaking with an employee and made several threatening statements to blow up the senior services building, the sheriff’s office and several other agencies and facilities. They cleared the building and a canine sniffed around, but they could not find any threats in the building. They believe the call came out of Polk County. The Florida Farm Bureau held their 85th annual convention last week honoring the Larson dairy family for the commitment they’ve had over the years to agriculture. President Jeff Smith, in his annual address, said the Farm Bureau provided food for 28 million families and charities last year. In fact, Florida Farm Bureau earned AFBF’s top national award in the Harvest for All program. Our members donated more than 28 million pounds of food to the Feeding Florida network of food vets. He says it was a rough year with a lot of winter disasters, freezes and, of course, the recent rains. The Florida Supreme Court heard the appeal of death row inmate Joseph Ables. He killed Deputy William Gentry in Lake Placid. Gentry had responded to the report of a cat being shot. Rick Buckwalter, one of the attorneys who argued the case, said the defense claimed Ables was scared and that’s why he shot the deputy. The testimony was he remembered nothing. He did not have a gun, even though AFT said that gun was registered to him and they checked on that. He did not even have him having a gun. And the circumstances, the circumstantial evidence shows absolutely no evidence of self-defense or a need for self-defense. Defense attorneys claim the defense of post-traumatic syndrome disorder should have been allowed for Ables as he is a military veteran. A Clewiston man, Juan Pujol, is facing fleeing and attempting to elude police charges. Deputies say he drove over 95 miles an hour on 441 headed towards Martin County after being spotted at a local RV resort. In a suspicious vehicle complaint, while he eluded deputies that day, he was picked up later on a warrant. A Okeechobee resident having to fix their driveway and front yard after a large truck apparently was trying to turn around and got stuck and did some damage. It’s alleged the vehicle caused substantial damage to the grass, soil, pavement and millings. There was also some video evidence and the vehicle was registered to a Jupiter man.
