OKEECHOBEE, August 15, 2023 – In a significant step toward enriching the lives of Okeechobee’s youth, the Education Foundation of Okeechobee proudly announces its partnership with the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office.

Together, they are introducing the “Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Cadet Program,” a transformative initiative that offers students invaluable hands-on experiences emphasizing resilience, leadership, and citizenship.

Alaina Barron, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of Okeechobee, stated, “Our commitment to the youth of Okeechobee is unwavering, and this partnership serves as a testament to that dedication. With the support of funding awarded by the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and Florida Department of Education, we’re not just backing a program; we’re investing in the future leaders of our community.”

Initiated by Chief Deputy Michael Hazellief, the program immerses students in the intricate world of law enforcement and community service. They will focus on learning about public safety and experiencing it first-hand through community activities.

Chief Deputy Hazellief commented, “With this initiative, we’re bridging the gap between the world of law enforcement and our youth. This program is not just an educational experience but a chance to mold our future leaders, foster mutual understanding and growth, and set the foundation for a united community.”

Supported by the Education Foundation of Okeechobee, the County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Cadet Program emerges as a beacon of community collaboration and vision.

This combined effort envisions a future where the youth of Okeechobee are informed and actively contributing to a cohesive community.
