WOKC News. Stopping to pray with WOKC News, I’m Charles Murphy. The courthouse lawn in Okeechobee was the site of the annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. A couple hundred on hand yesterday, special music, and of course 14 or so prayers said for our nation, its welfare, its safety, and for spiritual growth. Mike Cornell prayed for businesses and the economy. Lord, as the fuel prices have a ripple effect on the economy as a whole, Lord, we pray in Jesus’ name that our fuel prices would stabilize and begin to decrease in the name of Jesus. Emmeline Harris was asked to pray for world health, addiction, homelessness, and joblessness. Father, I pray for the homeless, God. I pray for those that have health conditions, God. I pray for those, God, that are out there on drugs, God. Somebody’s child needs you this day, God. Matt Bowen prayed that the Lord will help veterans and the military and their families. We pray especially for our veterans who carry visible and invisible wounds. Father, bringing heal, healing to those battling PTSD, anxiety, grief, and painful memories. That law enforcement scam is back again. People are calling using actual names of Okeechobee County Sheriff employees and have been successful getting payments over the phone. The Sheriff’s office wants to get the word out that scam callers are targeting our citizens again. They note they never call about a warrant, fine, miss summons, or other legal matter demanding payment or threatening to revoke your driver’s license or even arrest you. More love bugs this year. Norman Lepla, a University of Florida professor, says they are very spotty and sporadic in their attacks. They just come out at different places where they’ve been able to survive or where they happen to occur because of the wind blowing or their distribution to find a place to hold the pods with their eggs. Lepla says they can damage the body of your car if they’re left on there for too long. Another rumor is that they are acid. They’re not acid at all. They’re neutral. What causes the problem is that baking on the paint. And so the sooner they are removed, the better. A new law will protect Floridians from hyperscale data centers. Governor Ron DeSantis Thursday signed Senate Bill 484 into law. It bans utilities from passing data center costs, including electricity costs, onto residential and small business customers. It also requires large-scale users to pay their full cost of service, and it gives local governments the right to reject data center development. DeSantis says there are much-needed protections for taxpayers and our natural resources. Early snow of Brighton gets 68 months after methamphetamine trafficking. A traffic stop on Southeast 39th Avenue on May 14th of last year led to the discovery of methamphetamine, marijuana, and suspected drug cash. You also pay a $50,000 fine. Snow was earlier in his life sentenced to two decades behind bars after a dispute, high-speed chase, and shots fired in Glades County and Okeechobee County. Okeechobee County deputies, Glades County deputies, and Seminole police chased after him. He fired shots at Seminole officers, disabling one of their vehicles, and shot on Route 78 at some Okeechobee deputies. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
