WOKC News. Remembering those that sacrificed. With WOKC News, I’m Charles Murphy. Memorial Day observances held across the state in Okeechobee, Glades County, Highlands County, St. Lucie, and all surrounding communities. 34-year Navy veteran Captain Tim Hill spoke on the real meaning of Memorial Day and remembering those that gave their life in service of the nation. Friends in the audience and fellow vets, it’s a somber day for us as usual, but it’s appropriate that we remember our friends. Okeechobee County Fire Rescue says costs are going up for the average call as they respond to emergencies. It costs them about $900 on average now. They’re working to update their fees and charges for these various services. It will get more revenue from health insurance and car insurance companies and not directly from residents. An Okeechobee man is accused of being a stalker, breaking into an RV and taking his clothes off. Antonio Estados Lane is facing serious charges that include burglary to an unoccupied dwelling, grand theft and stalking. He lastly took $2,000 worth of jewelry from the female victim. There was no one home at the time. His bond was $43,000. A drug trafficker gets seven years in prison. Eddie Cardenas admitting to owning about 454 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies found in a car they stopped on 98 North on May 7th, 2024. The driver, Jose Jimenez, had no driver’s license. He pled no contest to reduce charges of possession of narcotics and received 13 months in jail. Cardenas will also pay a $100,000 fine. The Indiantown Village Council voted to go ahead with July 4th fireworks this year. The chamber will help by getting private donations. Jennifer Longshore told the council, let’s have fireworks. Every other city across the world, most, have firework displays. Indiantown deserves that as well. We’re small, but I think that our community deserves that. Our taxpayers deserve that, in my opinion. An Ogochuya man accused of fleeing and eluding law enforcement had a small amount of drugs in the car. Charles Edgar Hill was allegedly speeding on 710 in the 4200 block. He drove just over a half mile before pulling over in a section of Northeast 34th Avenue. His bond was set at $8,000. Osceola County had lifted the burn ban for a while, but now it’s back in effect due to the dry conditions. Burn ban impacts campfires, fire pits, and pit-based grills, trash burning, and any ground-based burning, as well as discharging fireworks. Sebring Police investigating an incident at the Back Alley Bar and Grill. It involved a vehicle striking multiple individuals Saturday night outside the establishment. An argument had broken out and escalated. A group of individuals entered a vehicle, and the driver allegedly began driving into patrons who were attempting to continue the physical altercation.
