WOKC News. Proposing 200 homes with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. Yogeshoe County Planning Board recommended rezoning for Wolf Farms. It’s a 75-acre project at 1590 Southwest 28th Street, just west of Oakview Church. There were some concerns about drainage and density with the project. Neighbor Larry Davis brought up some drainage concerns. I don’t have to tell you what happened across the street this past weekend. The flooding at the school, and that home has been there for many years. It’s lower than what would be required now. If you build that whole property up three or four feet to meet the code, what is that gonna do to these people’s homes? Safeguards, are they gonna be in there to keep from flooding them out? The planning board recommended approval of a lights industrial mini storage business just north of 36th Street on US 98, and recommended approval for the Faithful Trails RV Estates. It would be on 22 acres and have 195 hookups and other amenities like a pool. The County Commission votes on these recommendations October 8th. A fatal crash west of Yeehaw Junction on State Road 60 this morning, troopers responding to the crash at Peavine Road, three cars apparently involved. A bicyclist tried to elude law enforcement allegedly and ran through several stop signs according to the incident report. It started on Northwest 6th Street, went on to 3rd Avenue and 4th Street, 2nd Avenue and then 4th Street and 2nd Avenue before it was finally ended on Parrot Avenue, their Northeast 9th Street. Facing charges of resisting arrest is Terrell Flood of Okeechobee. We’re coming up on Domestic Violence Awareness Week. Volusia County in September approved a domestic violence database. It allows people to access information about repeated convicted abusers. Supporters say it would help someone who isn’t aware of who they’re dating, hiring or hanging out with. Amanda Westin told commissioners there that they want informed choices for women. We research contractors before hiring them. We check vehicle histories before buying them. We run background checks for many jobs involving trust and responsibility. Shouldn’t the women, families and loved ones in our lives have the same opportunity when entering a relationship? Okeechobee has had high rates of domestic violence for years. For example, last year they had 341 incidents of domestic violence. The Lake Placid Town Board can’t decide who they want to hire to run the town. Police Chief Mark Snyder, the interim, withdrew his name after a stalemate. Would it help for council if I rescinded my application? The mayor, Colleen Charles, nominated Jordan Fairfield of Austin, Texas. So I guess there’s no support of my recommendation. Two parents got into it because their daughters were dating. They got into an argument in the parking lot stop in Buckhead Ridge. The report was made by one of the parents at Osceola Middle School and will be given to Glades County to investigate. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
