Ribbon was cut on a 7-mile long, $52 million pump station project in Palm City. It’ll benefit the St. Lucie estuary and the Indian River Lagoon. Governor Ron DeSantis was there. Part of that is the fishing, the boating. All the great pastimes that we have here in the free state of Florida is going to be better. There have been 90 projects completed since DeSantis took office. A chain reaction crash involving a school bus in Highlands County. It happened on US 27 in Venus at Gould Road East. The kids were headed towards Lake Placid. There was 11 on board. Two suffered minor injuries. And the bus driver also suffered minor injuries. Okeechobee Super Walmart had to be evacuated after an equipment problem in the meat cooler. County Fire Rescue said they responded to a report of a fire behind the wall in the store in the cooler section. But customers’ employees were not aware of any problem. They evacuated the building as a precaution, only minor damage done. An alleged reckless driver still being sought after being chased on 441 and 441 SE. It was reported that the white Ford truck with a white camper was driving in the northbound lanes headed southbound on 441 near Lakeshore Curve. Deputies caught up to the truck in the 7000 block of 441 SE and the vehicle pulled over into a parking lot on 86th Boulevard, but apparently the driver got out and ran. Deputies looked along with canines but could not locate the man. The vehicle was registered to a resident of Immokalee. The owner claimed he had loaned out the truck to a man he had known five years ago.
