WOKC News. Quit vandalizing Lock 7. With WOKC News, I’m Charles Murphy. Okeechobee County commissioners expressing some frustration over the summer about vandalism at Lock 7. They had some airboat races there, and someone destroyed a donated Port-A-Lets. Others have been doing donuts in the parking lot, causing damage. Sisson County Administrator Justin Nelson says they will find the vandals. Help define the people that are getting into those areas, making that vandalism. It’s extremely hard right now, because of the way our camera system is. But we will be looking at putting some remote cameras at different locations, because of the way that the facility is laid out. Because we will have those defined inlets, outlets, those areas. So we’ll know these are the five or six vehicles that went into that area. We’ll know these are the five or six vehicles that have left it. The Noguchiwe man entered in a contest plea Wednesday to DUI manslaughter. Carlos Leon was behind the wheel of a UTV in the Viking property. In May of 2024, the accident killed his 37-year-old passenger. He will be sentenced on four felony charges on November 3. Yoguchipa County School Board finalizes a termination agreement with former Education Association President Jorge Botello. The teacher found to have not paid a $1,300 fee when he sent his son to a student and school-sponsored trip to Washington, DC. He was chairperson of the fundraising committee. The district hired a law firm that found he violated school policies about ethics, fraud, professional conduct, and theft. The assistant principal at the district at his school overheard a conversation where Botello allegedly admitted to not paying the fee. He declined to be interviewed by the district attorney. Four staff members, including Botello, were awarded complimentary trips, but not his son. The trips included 72 students and 36 parents and chaperones. The armed fisherman is frustrated again, this time at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office over public records. Michael Taylor plagued the Yoguchipa County Commission meetings with disruptions for nearly a year. He’s blaming the sheriff of Martin County for dragging their feet in his record request. He’s been standing on street corners with an open carry revolver, protecting his right to bear arms, and needs those videos so he can post it on YouTube. A storm of 1928 commemoration yesterday, September 16th, at Port Myakka Cemetery. It’s the 98th observance. The city of Stewart presenting a proclamation from Mayor Eula Clark. We’re here today on hallowed ground to remember those who suffered in the storm of 1928. The crowd also honored the one survivor of the storm who’s now 100 years old, Lucille Herron.
