The Okeechobee County Commission wants the state to help them build a sheriff’s administrative building or maybe expand the one they have. Commissioner David Hazelief wants them to push and focus on the one appropriation. And I like narrowing them down because, you know, if you go there was 27 different ones, you know, they’re going to kind of ignore you. They’re also looking to get 58 acres back from the state. The former Boy Scout camp on Taylor Creek off 441 North. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. County commissioners issuing a proclamation for that. Chad Adcock with 211 says you can make a difference in helping save someone’s life. The more we talk about it, the more we break down those barriers, the more likely people are to not go through with suicide. So if you know somebody that is struggling, talk to them. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions. The observance is to raise awareness, reduce stigmas and promote suicide prevention resources. Okeechobee averages about 10 suicide deaths a year. Indian Town will host an open house on the Silver Fox Data Center next week on September 21st. This as the commission is moving forward on a moratorium vote on data centers on October 8th, despite litigation threats. They’ve hired Michael Girardino as the interim manager. He has this goal, he says, in the job. I will lead now in my interim role and I will work hard to permanently improve Indian Town’s future. Taylor Creek Lock at S-193 will reopen tomorrow. They’ll be open on weekends for the time being from 530 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday to 9 p.m. each night. The boat locks close during the week, Monday through Friday. The water levels have gotten above 11 feet, allowing this to happen. An Okeechobee woman was charged with leaving the scene of a property crash without rendering aid involving injury. It was an accident at the Cattleman’s RV Park. A vehicle backed up into a child who was riding her bicycle. A child was treated at Rollerson Hospital. A Fort Pierce man, Hayden Albrecht, is facing charges of being a super speeder in Okeechobee. He was pulled over on Berman Road. They clocked him going 101 in a 50 in a Chevy Silverado truck. Amazon is closing a warehouse in Port St. Lucy. 500 people will lose their job in the next week. An Okeechobee man, Christian Robbins, charged with being a super speeder. He was observed traveling southbound on Highway 441 North by deputies going 104 in a 60. An Okeechobee woman, Sarah Haig, facing several charges after a domestic disturbance. She says her boyfriend was throwing things around, so she left with a stroller with a dog in it. Deputies caught up to her on 441 Southeast and found some narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
