The Okeechobee Utility Authority (OUA) is undergoing a large septic to sewer construction project [Southwest Wastewater Service Area (SWSA) Project 2 Septic to Sewer Conversion] within the area of SW 16th Street and SW 24th Avenue. Road closures are necessary to accommodate the on-going septic to sewer construction project.

Road closures will be on SW 24th Avenue, from SW 16th Street to SW 28th Street beginning Monday, January 15, 2024 through Friday, March 15, 2024 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (daytime hours only for a 10-week period) to complete the work for the OUA Utility Expansion Project.

Local traffic, school buses, and emergency vehicles will be provided access throughout the duration of the closure, to continue construction of this project.

OUA and the project contractor will maintain flaggers on-site during daytime work construction hours (in accordance with the County’s Land Development Regulations) to provide residents and property owners with safe access through this area while also ensuring proper and safe working conditions for OUA and the contractor. The proposed road closure and detour route map have been prepared by OUA and the project contractor and reviewed by the County Engineer, Assistant Road & Bridge Director, and Assistant Public Works Director.

Drivers are urged to follow the detour route, drive with caution and plan ahead to allow for more time to pass through the area as the traffic volume on surrounding streets may be higher than usual.
