WOKC News. More success for FFA with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. The Ogachibbe School Board honored the Ogachibbe High School Dairy Judging Team that won the state title this year. Coach Colleen Larson was honored, along with team members Lila Bishop, Hannah Butler, Allie Love and Savannah Caves. Love was the individual state champion. The team plans to take a trip to Scotland this summer and then compete at nationals in Indianapolis in October. Yearling Middle School Citrus Team finished fifth in the state and the Yearling Dairy Judging Team finished second. Sandy Arnold, honored by the school board, she retired after 37 years with the district, mostly in transportation. The district will be painting Central Elementary this summer for $46,000 and putting in a playground at the new Pine View Academy for $101,400. Ogachibbe schools will be changing when they pay staff this summer. They’ll go back to 24 checks per year every two weeks. In the past, they put out a large check at the beginning of the summer to cover the entire period. Superintendent Dylan Tedder says there was some support for spreading out those funds. So we’re going back on a normal 24 pay schedule where every two weeks you will get a check and that’ll take them right through the summer. Same amount of checks, same money, no change, except you just don’t get all that money loaded up front that you’ve got to now divvy out over the summer to make it through the summer. The district worked with the union and got their OK. An attic fire in Buckhead Ridge, Ogachibbe County Fire Rescue say the cause of the fire is under investigation. They did have one patient that was transported to Rollerson Hospital for smoke inhalation. Department of Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson named Dr. Loujean Waters as the 2026 Woman of the Year in Agriculture. She’s a seventh generation Florida cattle rancher and owner of a veterinary practice that serves livestock producers across central Florida. Ground broke this week on the new medical examiner’s facility for the 19th Judicial Circuit. The bid for construction, 21.6 million staff, expects the construction to take about 490 days to complete. It’s anticipated to start on June 7th and be completed by October 10th of 2027. The Everglades Agriculture Area Reservoir will be done quicker than expected. Some five years, the federal government funding all the components to get done in 2029. Florida itself has spent nearly eight billion on Everglades project under Governor Ron DeSantis. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart says the Trump administration has done great work in the Everglades. And that was during something that a lot of people thought was not possible, which is the expedite of the dam around Lake Ogachibbe. That was done in record time, saving taxpayer money. A lot of people thought it was not possible. It was possible because of the leadership of a president. An Ogachibbe man is charged with discharging a firearm in public. Belisario Aguirre at first was thought that he had shot a car of a family member. They called 911. Turned out he shot the ground instead. No one was injured in the incident. The incident happened in the 3200 block of Northwest 6th Street. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
