WOKC News. Progress on the muck with WOKC News. I’m Charles Murphy. The Rivers Coalition heard from firms who were trying to remove muck out of Lake Okeechobee. One is treating the lake with alum. It’s used in lakes to reduce phosphorus levels and control algae blooms. Jim Moyer says Lake Okeechobee could benefit from the alum treatment and that they continue to have a huge impact on the region. Lake Okeechobee is the most polluted lake in North America. It’s also responsible for our climate. It’s responsible for the watershed down south of us. It’s responsible for many, many influences that are both cultural and economic as well as physical. Indian Town Village Council approving a planned unit development, the Tesoro Project, 5,700 acres. Florida Power & Light had the land annexed into the village recently. There’s been some concern about a data center. Councilwoman Vernistine Williams-Palmer says people have a right to comment but don’t do it with disrespect. And all this stuff about we are bought, we have to sign this, nobody can buy me. Nobody. And if nobody likes that, I’m okay with that. I don’t have to be bought. I’m not bought. And I don’t think nobody sitting up here is bought. Recently, the Silver Fox 606 data center was pulled but now there’s a new one called Project Growler which would be built at 18330 Southwest Warfield Boulevard if approved. It would include over 1.2 million square feet of space. A South Florida man is under arrest after he allegedly asked a Florida highway patrolman for a ride while possessing narcotics. It happened after a traffic crash on the turnpike near the Fort Drum Service Plaza. Terrence Harper asked for a ride to the plaza but the trooper by policy had to search him first and he located two and a half grams of marijuana. Central Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost continues his war with ice. He thinks the border should be opened and Orlando should throw out all the ice agents and be a sanctuary city. Reject ice in our community. Yeah, yeah. Woo! He wants an independent investigation into the death of 19-year-old Royer Perez Jimenez who was a member of the Glades County Detention Center. He has accused Homeland Security of engaging in kidnapping and deporting US citizens and terrorizing communities unlawfully. A man was trespassed from a local church in the 3600 block of Highway 70 East after he went to see the pastor. He apparently became belligerent and began to use racial slurs when they told him the pastor wasn’t there. The man said he’s homeless and was looking to go to the church to get help. A Boynton Beach woman is charged for tossing a bag of dog feces on her neighbor’s yard and also at sheriff deputies who came to investigate. Rena Boswell was charged resisting arrest and assault on lawmen. She was held in $5,500 bond after the incident in the area of Southwest 35th Court. I’m Charles Murphy, WOKC News.
